But that’s about to change.

It starts with a dare. An initiation. A challenge.

Quickly, it turns into more. But when you’re a victim of your status, there is no room for anything real. The rules are clear and simple.

Stick to your circle.

And never fall in love with anyone on the outside.

#Nerd is one of those New Adult novels focused on college that I enjoy so much. And Cambria Hebert did an excellent job. Her characters are mature and reasonable and there's trouble all throughout the book.

#Nerd is Rimmel and Roman, also known as Romeo around college. While Rimmel is socially awkward, has no friends, is really into studying and doesn't see the point of going to a party and get waisted, Roman is the most popular boy at college. He has all the girls swooning over him and ready for him to do whatever he wants. Their paths cross when Rimmel is forced to tutor him and he starts spending more time with her outside the tutoring classes because Rimmel has been the target of the fraternity rush Roman wants to get in.

I was excited about reading Cambria's book because this is the first book in a series with a lot of potential and because the synopsis promised trouble, a romantic pull between the two main characters and lots of trouble with a possible happy ending. However, I wasn't expecting for the author to touch so many topics and wrap them so well in one single book.
From Rimmel we learn a couple of things. Her problems are reflected in her personality and in her exterior and we can extract beautiful and truthful things like when her roommate tells her that changing her appearance and taking the time every morning to look "pretty" is only for yourself and not for the others. And throughout the story we see an enormous change not only in her personality, but in her appearance, too. This last change it was at the right moment and for the right reasons. We also get to know the source of all her pain and loneliness.
As for Roman, we get to see the playboy who can have any girl he wants, fall for the most unexpected girl, and fall hard. Then he is put in the position of having to choose between entering the frat for his future career or choosing the girl that for the first time make him want to have something more than a hookup.
And then we have the problems that come from many sources, not only the #BuzzBoss that is constantly spreading gossip around the campus and specially about the most popular guy there aka Romeo. But we also encounter other people that make Rimmel and Roman's path to a possible happy ending very difficult.

The only thing that I felt was missing after finishing reading #Nerd was not knowing who was the #BuzzBoss. I was left wondering who it is and was expecting a huge cliffhanger moment when he or she would be revealed maybe ending up in an additional problem for the main coupe. But it never came.

I had the feeling I would love this story and I had a great time reading it. I felt Rimmel's pain and love and Roman was the typical playboy, but with a sweet and careful side that would make soon every woman. This is one of my favorite NA College reads and I highly encourage you to read Rimmel and Roman's story. I am definitely waiting for what's to come for these two.

Cambria Hebert is the author of the young adult paranormal Heven and Hell series, the new adult Death Escorts series, and the new adult Take it Off series. She loves a caramel latte, hates math and is afraid of chickens (yes, chickens). She went to college for a bachelor’s degree, couldn’t pick a major, and ended up with a degree in cosmetology. So rest assured her characters will always have good hair. She currently lives in North Carolina with her husband and children (both human and furry) where she is plotting her next book.
