Blog Tour: Ask Again Later by Liz Czukas

Ask Again Later
by Liz Czukas
Publisher: Harper Teen
Release Date: March 11th 2014

Synopsis:
Despite what her name might suggest, Heart has zero interest in complicated romance. So when her brilliant plan to go to prom with a group of friends is disrupted by two surprise invites, Heart knows there's only one drama-free solution: flip a coin.
Heads: The jock. He might spend all night staring at his ex or throw up in the limo, but how bad can her brother's best friend really be?
Tails: The theater geek...with a secret. What could be better than a guy who shares all Heart's interests--even if he wants to share all his feelings?
Heart's simple coin flip has somehow given her the chance to live out both dates. But where her prom night ends up might be the most surprising thing of all...

Okay, so is this song overplayed? Maybe. But it's just so perfect for Ask Again Later. It's got that feeling of pushing on through a long night even though you might be tired. And some of the lines just spoke to me while I was writing the book, like "And if by the time the bar closes and you feel like falling down, I'll carry you home tonight." True friendship, right there!

If some of the other songs on this list have a few naughty words, they pale in comparison to Thrift Shop, so if you've got sensitive ears, skip this one. But since Heart loves vintage clothing, I had to go with this awesomely ridiculous song. I love it.

There is a section of the book that totally works for this song. And it's definitely the kind of song my friends and I would have gone nuts over when I was in high school. There would have been a serious dose of irony in our love of 1D, but it would have been there. I like the bouncy feeling of this song--it's almost impossible not to dance and sing along with it.

This is one of the greatest ballads ever written. It wasn't my prom theme, but it was the theme to Sophomore Fling when I was in high school so it always gives me that dance feeling. So when you're reading about slow dancing, this is definitely your soundtrack.

Another song that's probably been played to death, but you know it's playing at every prom right now. The ultimate dance tune. Everyone turns into a wannabe Pharrell when this song comes on--admit it.

This is definitely not the best version of this song (my personal favorite is Ella Fitzgerald's) but I had to use this one in homage to Audrey Hepburn since she's one of Heart's idols. The song works perfectly for a moment when Heart is reacting to a revelation from one of her dates.

This song is the ultimate anthem for misfits. Heart spends a lot of time feeling like she doesn't really fit in, but her friends "get" her. I love this cosplay lip dup for the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KmoKOrKJvk Because I think it really shows people embracing their geeky side and loving it. That's something Heart would totally get next to.

Ah, Ella makes the list after all! In Ask Again Later, Heart has a theory about crushes, so this is the perfect song for her. Well, except for the telling someone part...

I straight up love this song. The driving guitar line perfectly embodies that feeling of tension when you're not sure if you're feeling the same as someone else but you're really hoping you are. It doesn't fit any particular scene in the book, but works overall. It particularly works as the perspective of one of the characters--not Heart--but I won't say which. *cough, cough, Chase, cough, cough*

If you haven't guessed by now, Heart is into the classics. This song is fitting for the ending of the book, and I don't really want to be more specific again. Spoilers, sweetie!

Thank you so much, Liz for this amazing list! I definitely used it to read Ask Again Later :)
