If someone had told Paige Rice a year ago that she would spend her last summer before going to college with her parents, in the mountains, and in an RV, she would have told that person to stop bluffing. But that's exactly what happens: Family Bonding trip before college. And to the mountain, when her parents even have a person to do the dinner.
Prepared to have the worst summer ever and being the outcast of the camp her parents are making the whole family go, she goes with it. But meeting the people there was far more worst than she expected it to be and then there's hot, sexy and flirty Travis. The only person interested in Paige, in get to know her. However their attraction is so strong that they cannot prepare themselves for their collision and when a bunch of lies are between them, not only their love affair won't work out, but neither their friendship.

We were part of the book blitz of this book and since then we have been dying to read it. We really liked this story, but didn't like how Travis treats Paige. Not at all, buddy (We'll get to this). Heather Buchine did a great job with this story, although we were expecting a little bit more. Don't know what exactly, but that's how we felt after reading the book.
So straight to Paige's relation-mess. Ok, she's either dumb or stupid. Sorry, I like her, but didn't like how she reacts to Travis. I mean, guys, the boy is interested in her and sparks fly between them, that's evident. But he tells her to keep their friendship as a secret since his friends don't really like Paige.
Say What? Yep, he tells her this. Come on, you don't need to be a brainiac to know that either the boy doesn't want to spent time with you in public aka is ashamed or you, or he has something to hide from you aka some big scary secret (maybe he's a serial killer? :O) or he's gay or he has a girlfriend! Yeah, I know the girlfriend is the most obvious, but guys, don't tell me you wouldn't be suspicious and say to the boy: are you kidding me?
Like a normal person, Paige is suspicious about this, bit is so quick that we didn't even notice! At first we thought she was ok with it. But we had to read again to know for sure that she was a little bit suspicious.
But that's not the infuriating part, because they both have their fault in this situation. Paige for accepting this crappy relationship with a boy and he for asking her for that kind of secret relationship. And a friend does not shut up when other friends assault verbally the other or mistreat them. I was like: I cannot believe this. And she still was ok! I would be furious! Don't you, Book Addicts? It's like all hot and cold at the same time. So cute, hot and friendly when he's alone with Paige and so distant and cold when he's around his campsite friends with Paige. And by hot, I mean hot, hot, hot. They have some scenes that they got carried away, and it's frustrating, because you see how much they like each other, but it's like you feel everything is a lie for Travis' behavior and for Paige's permission to treat her that way.
So you can tell how we can still be furious with Travis and with Paige. But paige stupidity, blindness, confidence leads her to not put two and two together. It's like you see all Travis' lies and hints and signs with noisy alarms and shiny lights that points to the obvious things, but she has a hard time finding up Travis' lies. When she arrives to the "unraveling" truth, you have deduced it a hundred pages ago. Well, maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit.
My frustration, may lead to a point where now you think I didn't enjoy the book. I did. I truly did, but just reading about Paige, how she can be so naive and not seeing the obvious signs, it's like you want to slap her into reality.
However, the author creates an hostile environment for Paige until Travis' friends start to let her in into their group, slowly. And that's when he starts to show affection for Paige in public (Frustration level to the max! Not starting again, I promise).
I liked their physical attraction and the fact that they still, after everything, want to be together. What I didn't like was how an almost rape scene was handled in the book. That's a reason why we couldn't give this book the five gorjuss dolls, because we don't like how it's handled.
After some messy scenes where Paige (FINALLY!) learns all the truth, we arrive to some happy ending, well gathered, that leaves the reader the big "ooh" and "yes!" and "finally". What we wanted to say with all those onomatopoeias was that it's a great ending for Travis and Paige and their relationship and that everything ends up they way they had to be.
With a great story, good characters and a difficult, yet fascinating relationship between the two main characters, Paige and Travis, Ms. Buchine created a wonderful story worth reading this summer. Book Addicts, give it a try before saying no! You may be captivated by Paige's world.

By no surprise my favorite hobbies are reading and writing. But beyond escaping into the written fantasy world, I love experiencing new things. Surfing, motorcycle riding, snow blading, glass blowing, parasailing, SUP boarding are just a few that I have checked off my bucket list, but there is still so much more to explore. Right now, being a mom is my biggest adventure and the best by far!! In the quiet calm hours of the night though, I can usually be found typing away creating a world of romance where drama still exists but love (hopefully!!) always prevails.
